The
Ministry is charged with developing, implementing and monitoring
programmes for the good governance and wellbeing of the iTaukei,
the Ministry’s contribution in 2011 to Government’s
development objectives are:
Corporate
Services Division
The Corporate Services Division (CSD) supports the Ministry’s
outcomes by facilitating development of strategic direction,
resource and asset management and leading the financial management
framework. Corporate Services also ensures the availability
of information management systems and resources, manages facilities,
ensures compliance, registry / records management and provides
human resource services.
Native
Lands Appeals Tribunal
The Native Lands Appeals Tribunal (NLAT) was established under
the provisions of the Native Lands Act (Cap.133) as amended,
Native Lands [Amendment] (Appeals Tribunal) Act 1998. Its
role is to determine appeals from decisions of the Native
Lands and Fisheries Commission in relation to disputes concerning
native land ownership and native land boundary, fishing rights
ownership and boundary and customary chiefly positions. Any
determination by the Appeals Tribunal is final.
iTaukei Institute
of Language and Culture...Read More
The iTaukei Institute of Language and Culture (IILC) is notably
recognized for producing and publishing the first ever iTaukei
monolingual dictionary. In addition to reviewing the current
iTaukei monolingual dictionary edition it is also responsible
for researching and documenting all aspects of the iTaukei
Language and Culture. Current mediums of Information dissemination
include radio programs, newspaper and brochures.
Native
Lands and Fisheries Commission...Read More
The Native Land and Fisheries Commission (NLFC) is a statutory
body constituted under the Native Lands Act Cap 133 and the
Fisheries Act Cap 158. The Commission is charged with ascertaining
what Lands and Fishing grounds in each province of Fiji are
the rightful and hereditary properties of Native owners. The
Commission also adjudicates on disputes of lands, customary
fishing grounds and traditional headship titles. It is also
the custodian of various registers kept at the Commission
which are maintained and updated from time to time. These
Registers facilitate the resolution of disputes relating to
customary titles, land boundary and land ownership.
iTaukei Affairs Scholarship Division (IASD)...Read More
The iTaukei Affairs Scholarship Unit (IASD) of the Ministry
of iTaukei Affairs provides secretariat support for both
the Group and the Committee, including the Mentoring and Monitoring
Subcommittee (a subcommittee of the iTaukei Education Committee
set up to provide a mentoring and monitoring role for students
initially at the Laucala Campus, USP). Other support services
include student’s counseling/provision of advice and
hands-on management of the iTaukei Affairs Scholarship
Scheme.
Development
Division
The Development Division (DD) provide advisory roles on development
policies and programmes in all sectors of government and the
economy through monitoring, reviewing and development of policies
that contribute to the socio-economic development of the iTaukei
community. Engage in consultative forums with key stakeholders
and resource based forums as representative of the iTaukei
as resources owners. Under the Peoples Charter for Change,
Peace and Progress (PCCPP) and the Roadmap for Democracy and
Sustainable Socio – Economic Development (RDSSED) 2009-2014,
is responsible for coordinating and monitoring iTaukei Institutions deliveries against the roadmap; co-ordinating
in the formulation and monitoring of policy papers, and programs
through the Internal Policy Committee (IPC), coordinate and
assess Vanua issues with key institutions / agencies and provide
briefs / updates to management, engage in a collaborative
approach through the Inter Agency Committee on Lands (IACL)
with representatives from the iTaukei Affairs Board (IAB),
the Ministry of Lands & Mineral Resources, and the Native
Land Trust Board.
