The Permanent secretary
for iTaukei Affairs, Meli Bainimarama signed an agreement
in September 2008 with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center for
UNESCO (ACCU) based in Japan to enhance the promotion of iTaukei Intangible cultural heritage.
With this agreement,
the iTaukei Institute of Language and Culture will serve as
a national correspondent for Fiji, updating the rest of the
Asia Pacific Countries through ACCU of the highlights of its
activities every year particularly in the field of Intangible
Cultural Heritage.
An international conference
on safeguarding of Intangible cultural heritage was held in
Seoul, Korea on the 3rd to the 4th of November 2009. The theme
of the conference was information and networking. Mr Simione
Sevudredre, a new senior officer at the institute attended

is engaged in as far as the 2003 UNESCO Convention on Intangible
Cultural Heritage is concerned.
In addition to these,
the Senior Admin Officer, Mr Sekove Bigitibau of the iTaukei Institute
of Language and Culture, was also invited by WIPO
to attend a seminar on Intellectual Property and Traditional
Knowledge (TK), Genetic Resources (GR), and Traditional Cultural
Expressions, as a speaker. The seminar was held in Thailand
