• Sponsorship for overseas franchised programmes would
depend on availability of funds.

Selection Criteria
Scholarship awards will be based on merit taking into account
academic attainment and/or relevant experience.
Eligibility
Applicants: must be
• Fijians or Rotumans.
• citizens of Fiji
• must not (including members of their immediate family)
have Permanent Residence status of another country.
• Free of any bonding arrangements at the time of commencement
of an award
• able to take up the award in the calendar year for
which the award is offered
• able to show proof of placement before an award is
given
UNDERGRADUATE
• Applicants must have passed either the Full-time Foundation
programmes at the University of the South Pacific or the Fiji
National Form 7 or equivalent examination. Candidates who
are appearing for examinations this year must apply by the
closing date and inform the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs
of the results of the examinations as soon as these come to
hand.
• Applications from mature age candidates will also
be considered provided they have the recommendation of their
employers and completed at least 4 relevant units of the proposed
study.
• Applications from Civil Servants MUST
be submitted through their Permanent Secretaries for their
comments and recommendations. Applications that do not satisfy
this requirement will be rejected.
• Applicants should not hold an undergraduate or postgraduate
degree
• Applicants for undergraduate programme should not
be over 40 years of age.
POSTGRADUATE
• Those intending to undertake postgraduate studies
must have achieved above average results (B/B+ average
or GPA of 3.0 or more) in their undergraduate degree(s)
and have at least five years satisfactory relevant work experience.
• Applications from in-service candidates MUST
have the endorsement and recommendation of their Permanent
Secretaries. Applications that do not satisfy this requirement
will be rejected.
• Applicants for Masters programme should not be over
45 years of age and those applying
for Doctorate should not be over 42 years of age.
• A short summary of thesis proposal highlighting the
application of research findings in enhancing the quality
of life and service in Fiji must be submitted with the application.
Important Notes:
i) Applications for unadvertised courses will not
be considered.
ii) Applicants must note that if an immediate member of the
family is already in receipt of a full scholarship, assistance
given will be limited for tuition fees only in a local institution.
iii) Successful candidates must note that proof of placement
(Offer Letter from an Institution) must be sighted before
the award is confirmed. This need not be submitted with the
application form if it is not yet available.
iv) Applicants who are currently pursuing the Fiji National
Form 7 exams and the Full-time USP Foundation programmes will
be assessed on the basis of their 2008 exam results.
v) Applications close on Friday, 3rd October at 4.00pm.
Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
vi) Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted
regarding the next phase of the selection process. To those
applicants not shortlisted, we extend our appreciation for
considering the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs as a potential
sponsor.
